Do you research or work on nuclear arms control and disarmament issues? Do you want to join a community of scholars and practitioners exploring innovative ideas in the field of nuclear politics?
If so, we are now welcoming applications for our 2026 Fellows Scheme for researchers in academia and beyond. If you are an early-career researcher or practitioner in the field of nuclear arms control and disarmament, we would love to hear from you.
The Fellows Scheme brings together early-career experts in a welcoming online space to discuss and develop their work on arms control and disarmament. The goal is to help both fellows and established experts advance innovative thinking in the field, with the aim of contributing to high impact research to help policy innovation and change.
Fellows will be expected to contribute to the project blog and attend a series of monthly online events throughout 2026. These events will be shaped by the needs and interests of the Fellows, and offer opportunities to present their work, expand their professional networks, gain insights from established experts, and advance their careers in nuclear arms control and disarmament.
This year, Fellows have met every month online, published blog posts, and heard from prominent academics, diplomats, international organisation staff, and NGO workers. Fellows also had the opportunity to join the Atomic Anxiety Project delegation to the TPNW Meeting of States Parties at the UN.
This is an initiative launched as part of Dr Rhys Crilley’s UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship – Atomic Anxiety in the New Nuclear Age – which focuses on understanding why nuclear weapons remain a persistent feature of global politics and critically assessing how arms control and disarmament efforts can reduce the risk of nuclear war. The Fellows scheme is non-residential and non-remunerated.
How to apply:
To apply, prospective fellows should complete and submit the short application form: Atomic Anxiety in the New Nuclear Age Fellows Scheme – 2026 – Fill in form
