THE AVENGERS Extended Super Bowl Commercial: We Have a Hulk

The Avengers (2012) – Directed by Joss Whedon – Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Lou Ferrigno, Tom Hiddleston, and Clark Gregg.

Here’s the extended cut of THE AVENGERS’ Super Bowl ad. It looks completely awesome, but then, why wouldn’t it? The ad does a good job reminding you why you want to see the film: lots of action, Robert Downey Jr. cracking wise, Hawkeye, Chris Evans’ earnestness, Chris Hemsworth’s arms, Scarlet Johansson’s everything … there’s even a touch of the trademark Whedonesque wit.

Like one of the earlier AVENGERS trailers, the best line comes from Stark about the Hulk.

Loki: “I have an army.”

Stark: “We have a Hulk.”

Darn straight.

  1. I am really, really torn on this.

    I like Bulkhead. A lot.

But I am confused by why Transformers cartoons must always be set in whatever part of America has very few buildings and lots of big red rocks (the sparse landscapes made MUCH more sense in Beast Wars; here it is just “We wanna use CGI, but only want to half-arse it.”.

I don’t get all this stupid Bumblebee crap from the movies that has for some reason carried through here; I loathe Optimus Prime’s movie-inspired robot mode; I hate the fact that we have G1 MEGATRON’S VOICE ACTOR DOING MOVIE MEGATRON’S STUPID VOICE; I hate Starscream; I hate Soundwave.

I like Ratchet and Cliffjumper’s designs (and Bulkhead’s, but I already said I like him).

It just feels like an animated version of the revolting live-action movies, with a few half-decent character models thrown in. And REALLY dull plots.

But I do have to give credit for the killing of Cliffjumper. It adds little to the ongoing storyline of the show (I don’t care enough about Cliffjumper OR Arcee to care that Cliffjumper comes back as a zombie or that Arcee is upset about it), but it has given Hasbro the opportunity to release lots of limited/rare Cliffjumper toys. :P

I don’t see why we couldn’t just get more Transformers: Animated, rather than this lameness (which I admit is much better than the live-action movies, but awful compared to any other TF animated series).

And if you like human-less TF stories, you should read the current TF: Robots in Disguise and TF: More Than Meets The Eye seriies by IDW. Totally human-free, and the most absurd premise in TF history for MTMTE. I mean… OMG. Just… yeah.

  2. I don’t really care for The Ultimates, as it lacks everything that I feel separates the Avengers from other big-time super-teams (such as the JLA). This movie also seems to lack all of those things (but that said, it seems to be an Ultimates movie, despite its name).

The ONLY thing that has interested me in these previews are Tony Stark’s jokes – and considering Iron Man has always been one of my least favourite Avengers, and I haven’t especially cared for the Iron Man movies, that is very disappointing.

It’s funny – I got to the point where I now have thousands and thousands of comics by starting with the UK Transformers comic and stumbling through to the Avengers. But the live-action Transformers movies are the most vile garbage I’ve ever had to sit through, and the Avengers movie looks about as unappealing as sheep brain pie with a side of regurgitated cabbage.

    *sigh*
